Flooding is one of the main climate hazards affecting Europe, and recent research suggests that climate change could cause extreme flood events to become more frequent over the next decades. RMS is committed to supporting our clients in these efforts by providing a rigorous analytical basis for decision-making, which combines our long-standing catastrophe modeling expertise with ongoing research into the effects of climate change on physical climate risks.

This report explores the latest scientific understanding of the effects of climate change on flood risk in Europe, and possible implications on losses caused across the continent by combining:

  • The latest RMS, high-definition modeling capabilities for the peril, the Version 2 RMS Europe Inland Flood HD Models
  • Projections for future precipitation patterns based on four different greenhouse gas emission scenarios
  • Covering time horizons for 2050 and 2090

An accompanying blog discussing key findings is available on rms.com.
