NEWARK, Calif. - February 21, 2017 RMS, la firma de gestión de riesgo catastrófico de Newark, California, recibió la aprobación de la Superintendencia Financiera de Colombia (SFC) para ofrecer servicios de modelización de catástrofes a compañías de seguros nacionales y globales que suscriben riesgo de terremoto en Colombia.
Las aseguradoras que suscriben riesgo de terremoto en Colombia sólo pueden usar modelos de catástrofe aprobados por la SFC para determinar su pérdida máxima probable, pérdida anual promedio y administrar sus reservas de capital, explicó RMS.
"Colombia tiene uno de los mayores riesgos sísmicos en América del Sur, con importantes concentraciones de exposición a fallas activas, incluyendo tres de sus ciudades más pobladas: Bogotá, Medellín y Cali. Sin embargo, a pesar del crecimiento económico cada vez mayor del país, la penetración de seguros sigue siendo baja ", dijo Víctor Roldán, director regional de Latinoamérica de RMS.
"Ahora, las aseguradoras pueden acceder a los más recientes avances científicos para entender las amenazas regionales de riesgo sísmico, y las capacidades tecnológicas del modelado de RMS para mejorar su selección de riesgos y precios", dijo Roldán. "Esto permitirá a las re/aseguradores desarrollar coberturas para ayudar a fortalecer la resiliencia del país ante el riesgo de terremoto, al mismo tiempo que mejoran sus carteras y reservas de capital para hacer crecer su negocio".
El modelo de terremoto de RMS Colombia es uno de ocho modelos en el catálogo de Suramérica. El catálogo de modelos también incluye Argentina, Bolivia, Brasil, Chile, Perú, Ecuador y Venezuela. Para desarrollar los modelos, RMS dijo que colaboró con expertos sudamericanos en sismología e ingeniería, entre ellos la Universidad de Los Andes, con sede en Colombia, y el Instituto Colombiano de Geología y Minería.
"Basados en un único catálogo regional de fuentes sísmicas de zonas de la corteza terrestre y de subducción e incluyendo más de 134.000 eventos estocásticos en Sudamérica, los modelos también capturan la influencia de las condiciones locales del suelo en temblores de terremoto e incorporan prácticas locales de diseño y construcción en evaluaciones de la vulnerabilidad de construcción", dijo RMS.
