RMS Portfolio Management Platform Licensed by Three New Clients

Calif – May 4, 2010 – Risk Management Solutions (RMS) today announced that three new clients have licensed its insurance-linked securities (ILS) portfolio management platform, Miu, which has quickly established itself as the leading solution in the market. Since its development only 18 months ago, Miu has rapidly gained interest amongst ILS investors, with two-thirds of funds that license a third-party model selecting Miu. The platform enables investors to rapidly analyze a portfolio of catastrophe bonds, side cars, ILWs, and reinsurance contracts, conduct stress tests and structure scenarios to analyze the effects of a particular catastrophe on their portfolio, as well as assess the marginal impact of adding an investment prior to executing any trades.

Over the last quarter, new clients licensing Miu include Pentelia Capital Management, Flagstone Reinsurance and Aon Benfield. As well as providing a true portfolio-level view of risk, Miu also enables users to assess potential ILS structures, and how these might sit within the market place, using the RMS library of every catastrophe bond in the market.

“We selected Miu because RMS offers a product that best suits our needs,” said Mathieu Marsan, risk manager and actuary, Pentelia Capital Management. “RMS has shown strong commitment to the capital markets through the development of a purpose-built ILS portfolio management platform, which has been enhanced since we first saw it in 2009. We are happy to join the growing community of Miu users.”

“We were immediately impressed with how user-friendly yet sophisticated Miu is,” said David Flitman, chief actuary at Flagstone Reinsurance. “The open data architecture allows us to easily embed Miu analytics in our own workflows, and to perform data mining via direct access to the underlying event tables. Miu enables us to assess long and short trades, and quickly gather information which previously could have taken days.”

RMS recently unveiled the latest version of the platform with new functionality and enhanced reporting capabilities based on client feedback. Features now include integrated event mapping, the ability to assess the impact of multiple historical events on ILS portfolios, and an option to combine historical scenarios with forward-looking risk analysis for powerful “what if” analysis.

“As market activity picks up and interest in cat bonds increases, there is a growing demand for more sophisticated analytics among ILS investors,” said Peter Nakada, managing director of RMS RiskMarkets. “Miu provides detailed transaction information, as well as access to RMS science and simulation data for a complete view of ILS risk that helps our clients gain a competitive edge in the market.”
