Japan Industry Exposure and Loss Data Japan Industry Exposure Database The RMS Japan Industry Exposure Database (IED) is a complete representation of the Japanese insurance industry property exposures covered for the typhoon, Earthquake Fire Expense Insurance (EFEI), earthquake, and fire following earthquake perils for selected lines of business. The basic exposure information has been developed and validated at the prefecture level of resolution. This development has been further revised to provide an exposure database at Japan Industry Standard (JIS) city code resolution by applying appropriate distribution factors for various lines of business. Total insured values are developed from macroeconomic data, population and household demographics, business statistics, and property information. The database is compiled for the following lines of business based on peril:
Japan Industry Loss Curves The Japan Industry Loss Curves (ILC) include separate modeled losses for Typhoon, Earthquake Fire Expense Insurance, Earthquake and Fire Following Earthquake for the same lines of business as the IED. These exceedance probability (EP) curves are created using the RMS industry-wide property exposure databases and the RMS RiskLink®-DLM catastrophe modeling software. The loss curves may be used within the RiskLink software to determine the probability that Japan industry-wide losses will exceed user-defined dollar and/or event thresholds for specific catastrophe perils.
