Account Fire Model

The RMS® Account Fire Model is the only physics-based probabilistic fire model based on fire dynamics and engineering principles for hazard and vulnerability analysis. The model includes a range of underwriting occupancy class profiles representing a major portion of premium traditionally booked by a large primary insurance company, and the analytics help underwriters and risk managers to develop an adequate premium to cover the appropriate level of risk for an account, and to develop an objective premium for facultative or excess layers.

Access to the Account Fire Model is delivered through a suite of Web services that can be readily embedded into existing client products or through an optional user interface developed by RMS to facilitate data entry and viewing and reporting of fire results for pricing, risk selection, and risk management for a given submission or an entire portfolio of accounts.

Model Highlights

Physical modeling of fire ignition, spread, and suppression throughout a multi-storied, multi-compartment facility to obtain the full realization of the fire until it is extinguished

Explicit modeling of fire department suppression based on response time and control time upon arrival at the scene

Features a fire dynamics hazard simulation technique that mimics the physical behavior of fire spread through a building via open doors or breached firewalls

Includes Underwriting Occupancy Category profiles to close the exposure data gap and mitigate underwriting premium leakage, enabling an account risk analysis based on all account locations

A range of reported analytics, including an exceedance probability curve and return period on underwriting scenario losses, in addition to average annual loss and coefficient of variation

Developed in collaboration with insurance companies and fire engineering industry experts and organizations

Geographic Scope

The contiguous United States
