Quantifying Terrorism Risk Under The Obama Administration

RMS is pleased to invite you to our 8th annual terrorism seminar entitled 'Quantifying Terrorism Risk Under The Obama Administration.' President Obama has promised significant changes in America’s counter-terrorism strategy. These will have ramifications on terrorism risk in the United States and abroad. This conference will address the impacts on global terrorism risk from the foreign and domestic policies of the Obama Administration. As in past years, RMS will assemble several pre-eminent terrorism experts to present their insights and take questions.

The complimentary half-day event will be held in New York City on Thursday, July 23 from 1:00 pm – 5:30 pm, followed by a reception at the landmark Hudson Theatre of the Millennium Broadway Hotel.

While there is no charge for the event, for security reasons attendees must register at least one week in advance (by Wednesday, July 15).

Registrations from non-clients are subject to review from RMS and the completion of a non-disclosure agreement (NDA).

1:15 pm - 2:00 pm	Terrorism Risk In The U.S. During The Obama Administration Dr. Bruce Hoffman, Professor of Security Studies at Georgetown University’s Edmund A. Walsh School of Foreign Service With a new administration in the White House, how will political change in Washington affect terrorism risk in America? Has the “Obama Effect” helped to quell the terrorism threat in the U.S.? Is Al Qaeda still the No. 1 terrorism threat? What is the risk of an attack by a homegrown terrorist group in the U.S.? An analysis of the terrorism risk in the United States will be addressed during this presentation.
2:00 pm – 2:45 pm	NYPD Counterterrorism Efforts Elana DeLozier, Intelligence Research Specialist at the Counterterrorism Bureau of the New York City Police Department The federal government plays a crucial role in facilitating counterterrorism work, particularly through technology development and intelligence collection, yet state and local officials are uniquely suited to protect the country against a terrorist attack. An assessment of the NYPD’s counterterrorism efforts will demonstrate the substantial work being done by city and state officials in New York City to prevent and mitigate terrorist threats.

3:15 pm - 4:00 pm	Al Qaeda: A Status Report Dr. Rohan Gunaratna, Head of the International Centre for Political Violence & Terrorism Research at the S. Rajaratnam School of International Studies (RSIS) of Nanyang Technological University, Singapore While Al Qaeda and its associate groups have suffered serious setbacks, they have also shown their resiliency to overcome huge obstacles. How has Al Qaeda evolved since 9/11? What role do their associate groups play now? This presentation will provide a general update on the current and projected threat posed by Al Qaeda.
4:00 pm - 4:45 pm	Global Terrorism Trends  Weimeng Yeo, Senior Analyst at RMS The change in the White House not only affects the U.S. but rest of the world. How has the global terrorism risk landscape changed since President Obama entered the White House? This presentation will look at global terrorism trends and gauge whether President Obama is winning the war against extremism.
4:45 pm - 5:30 pm	Panel Session With Speakers Dr. Gordon Woo, Catastrophist and Architect of the RMS Terrorism Model This panel discussion is designed to look into the effects of terrorist threats from a global perspective right down to the viewpoint of businesses and individuals. Dr. Bruce Hoffman, Dr. Rohan Gunaratna, Elanna DeLozier and Weimeng Yeo will share their expertise and experience as they provide insights and answer questions from the audience.
